COSMOS
"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe."
- Carl Sagan,'Cosmos'
Carl Sagan, along with Ann Druyan, started the television series 'Cosmos' in 1980. It won a Peabody award and was watched by almost 500 million people in over 60 countries. Many said that it was the only television show of its kind and they were right, even today's series is vastly different from most other shows.
" Test ideas by experiments and observations; build on those ideas that pass the test, reject those who fail; follow the evidence, wherever it leads; and question everything." |
" We wish to pursue the truth no matter where it leads and to find the truth we need imagination and skepticism, both." |
“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.”
- Carl Sagan,"Cosmos"
The series was an inspiration to many, and gave the general public some insight on science. The show also gave many scientists a jump start and inspired them to become what they are today. This show was a large accomplishment for Carl, as he had always wanted to share science with his world.

"Those who see the cosmic perspective as a depressing outlook, they really need to reassess how they think about the world. Because when I look up in the universe, I know I'm small but I'm also big. I'm big because I'm connected to the universe, and the universe is connected to me."
-Neil deGrasse Tyson
